A few years ago, before I’d started blogging, I spent a lot of time searching Google and Facebook for autism pages, trying to get a glimpse into what life was like for other families. I wanted to learn as much as I could so I could understand my boys better, and how best to help them.

One of the first pages I started reading that was written by an autistic adult, was written by Chris Bonnello, called Autistic Not Weird. After I started this blog I got in touch with Chris and have got to know him a little bit since then, following his page online.

So it was great to be able to get him onto the podcast and have a proper chat with him, and find out more about his own story.

We talk about what life was like for Chris growing up, and how his life changed a few years ago when he received his autism diagnosis.

Chris tells me about his life as a teacher, working in mainstream and special needs schools, and how that’s led to him becoming a special education tutor.

We also talk about how sometimes online there can be a divide between autistic adults and parents of children with autism, and how important it is that we try to bridge that gap.
